The universe's most compatible couples: superhuman love matches

The matchmakers at eHarmony (with the help of comic book expert, Claire Smith) have put some superhero characters through their compatibility matching system to determine the most romantically suited supers in the universe.

First up, Superman and Wonder Woman. These guys bring out the best in each other - on the merits of their colour-coordinating outfits alone we're rooting hard for this match (sorry, Lois).

Batman and Buffy the Vampire Slayer would make an excellent couple too, apparently. The traditional bat-vampire link is kind of blowing our minds (wouldn't Buffy consider Bat an adversary?) but hey, sometimes love conquers even your slayer instincts.

And Deadpool is a great match for Batman’s frequent foe, Harley Quinn: both have ‘notably high sex drives and an unconventional sense of humour’. Laughs and sexy wrestles aplenty with these two. Sounds pretty dreamy.

And it seems the dark-humoured anti-hero Deadpool is the super set’s most eligble man – he’s also a perfect match for Catwoman: ‘They both value closeness in a relationship – but not too much – and also share a similar level of high intelligence.’ Both heroes also exhibit neurotic personality traits, so you know, they get each other, even when they’re doing things that other people might find disturbing.

The most compatible of all the supers are The Joker and Enchantress (Cara Delevingne, Suicide Squad): ‘they both crave alone time and are uninterested in helping others around them’ – sounds like the foundation of a beautiful union…

Now it’s time to ponder who would win in a fight, if things did turn sour.

The love experts at eHarmony also figured out which characters should steer clear of each other and never, ever couple up, unless of course they get their kicks from fighting (which all of these guys do…)

The Hulk, sadly, seems destined to be unlucky in love. Due to his ‘introverted nature’ and need for ‘me time’ he was the most consistently incompatible character – red flags were also raised about Jessica Jones and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence, X-Men)

Batman and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson, The Avengers) should also never make a move on each other. And surprisingly (because they are frequent allies) Batman’s second worst match is Catwoman. He would be ill-advised to turn romantic on his work wife.

Claire Smith, Lecturer on Cartoon and Comic Arts at Staffordshire University, said: “The findings highlight that good relationships are based on more than what you see on the surface. These characters, despite usually being associated with their various traits, have an incredible emotional depth – proving even popular villains like Harley Quinn can be highly compatible with the likes of unorthodox hero Deadpool.”
