The designer has teamed up with the German footwear brand as part of its mobile pop-up series. Dubbed, The Birkenstock Box, the travelling space will park outside the Rick Owens store on La Brea Avenue in LA for a private launch on 17th April, and will be open to the public from 18th to 21st April.
To celebrate, the designer has reinterpreted three classic styles of the sandals, the Arizona, Madrid and Boston in a range of different fabrications including cow hair, felt, suede and full-grain leather. Owens has also designed the interior of the pop-up space incorporating key design elements from the Rick Owens New York Store and alongside the Rick Owens X Birkenstock capsule collection it will also offer visitors a curated range of Rick Owens ready-to-wear, furniture and accessories.
Speaking about the project, which marks the first time Birkenstock has invited a designer to collaborate on a retail space, Owens said “I like a steady original invested in the long game.”
The Birkenstock Box has previously held stints in Berlin with retailer Andreas Murkudis, New York with Barneys New York and Milan with 10 Corso Como.
The bespoke Rick Owens x BIRKENSTOCK styles will be available for purchase on Rick Owens and Birkenstock channels on 18th April.
