This is what Meghan and Kate wore to the Queen's Christmas lunch

Yesterday the Royals descended en masse to Buckingham Palace, for the Queen's annual Christmas lunch (if you're interested, here's everything they eat for Christmas dinner).

This included Mike and Zara Tindall, the Duke or York and daughter Princess Beatrice, and of course the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

And while no official pictures were released as this was a private event, we did catch a glimpse of what Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton wore, as they were papped in their cars arriving at the Palace.

Proving they can be stylish and frugal, they both recycled dresses they wore on previous occasions (also note that Princess Charlotte re-wore her brother Prince George's cardigan for the Christmas card photo).

Kate's pink satin dress previously made an appearance on 2011, for a birthday dinner for Prince Philips' 90th birthday at the Waterside Inn in Berkshire. It's by Stella McCartney and features a cute pussy bow at the front.

Meanwhile, from what we could see of the sleeve on Meghan's dress, we think it's an Erdem number that she wore for an appearance on the Today Show in the US in January 2016, before she started dating Prince Harry. It's from the designer's AW15 collection and features sheer detailing and a digital floral print.

There's much to be said for re-discovering old favourites in your wardrobe.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
