Not since Lupita Nyong’o first took the red carpet by storm have we been so infatuated with one new starlet’s rise to fashion superstardom.

But Lily James, the Downton lady currently touring the globe as Disney’s Cinderella has, sartorially speaking, been knocking it out of the park as of late.
She’s been quietly building her fashion credentials for a while now, working both cool designer labels and some princess-worthy silhouettes in real life, while in the beauty stakes she’s also mixing it up by switching from natural beauty to slick vamp with the flick of a magic (mascara) wand.
Gorgeous and a little bit goofy, we’re calling odds that she’ll soon take her own, J Law-type place amongst our favourite red carpet style stars.
Here’s a rundown of the Lily James looks we love…
In Balenciaga This was a biggie – the London premiere of Cinderella. And Lily totally stepped up style-wise in this seriously cool button wrap Balenciaga column gown. She makes the look even edgier with sleek, tucked back hair, smoky eyes and stacked ear cuffs. (See all the beauty pictures in the gallery above)

In Erdem Lily supported British design talent at the Italian premiere of Cinderella, choosing botanical Erdem lace to impress while in Milan. We love the ringlet up-do she’s clashed with it - very period drama, no? Fiancée Matt Smith is clearly keen too.
In Mary Katrantzou Standing out from between two iconic actresses, Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter, could have proven difficult for another up and coming actress. But Lily? She worked one of the hautest dresses of the season from Mary Katrantzou’s SS15 Pangea collection. Look a little closer and you’ll spot pre-historic reptiles amongst that beautiful coloured lacework. Cool, right?
In Elie Saab Now this is what we call a Cinderella dress! At the film’s LA premiere Lily more than looked the part in this intricate Elie Saab gown, teamed with soft beauty and a slicked chignon bun. Honestly, could anyone have been more fitting for the role?
In Camilla and Marc Lily throws a mannish grey coat over her feminine Camilla and Marc sheath dress as she finishes a TV appearance in New York. Better still? She’s carrying a Louis Vuitton tiny trunk – one of the most covetable bags of the season.
In Dior Another day, another princess-worthy silhouette. This time Lily’s making Christian Dior’s 1950s silhouette look cool, with a scraped back ponytail and barely there make up.
In Ralph Lauren Before Cinderella hit the big screen, Lily was already putting in the groundwork. Here she is wearing dazzling Ralph Lauren feathers at Prince William’s party for The Royal Marsden last year. Does it get any glammer than that?
