H&M will release a capsule collection inspired by The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series of books and films

It’s a global literary hit with the big screen adaptation one of the most eagerly-anticipated films of the year, and now The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is set to take over the high street too. H&M is releasing a capsule collection inspired by the Scandinavian thriller trilogy.

The Swedish high street giant has teamed up with the film’s costume designer, Trish Summerville, to create a line that channels the grungy urban aesthetic of the movie’s anti-heroine, Lisbeth Salander.

The 30-piece range will drop in-store and online from 14th December (a week before the film is released) and will feature leather biker jackets, ripped skinny jeans and slouchy hoodies in a muted black, grey, off-white and dark red palette so shoppers can grab a slice of that Scandinavian cool. The accompanying accessories are set to channel that gritty street chic too – think tribal jewellery, high-top trainers and leather boots.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's costume designer Summerville says of the collaboration: ‘Salander’s look is very real and lived-in, with pieces that her character has worn for a long time, like her jackets that act as her armour to shield her from the world. I wanted the collection to have the essence and strength of Salander, with a fashion edge, and I’m pleased with the result!’

The H&M announcement is set to increase the buzz around director David Fincher’s English language film version of the late Stieg Larsson’s Swedish novel.

The flick will see American actress Rooney Mara – all shorn hair, piercings and bleached eyebrows – take on the lead role of Lisbeth Salander, with support from Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist and screen legend Christopher Plummer as Henrik Vanger.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film hits UK cinema screens on 26th December.

We can’t wait!
