Chanel presented its Cruise 2014 collection in Singapore last night, casting the fashion spotlight on the South-East Asian city.

In what has become an annual spring ritual for the French fashion house, which has unveiled resort collections in Venice, Saint Tropez and Versailles in recent years, the latest show was hosted in a former nutmeg plantation and army barracks building in the Dempsey Hill district of Singapore, chosen for its exotic climate and tropical vegetation.

A whole host of Chanel's favourite models strutted down the catwalk in front of a 1,200 strong fashion crowd that included actresses Dakota Fanning, Anna Mouglalis and Rinko Kikuchi nestled on the front row. Cara Delevingne, Lindsey Wixson and Jamie Bochert, to name just three, all walked the runway.

As for the collection, there were lots of classic Chanel hallmarks present – think slouchy tailoring, sailor stripes, two-tone pumps and strings of pearl necklaces – in a nod to Coco Chanel in Deauville in 1913 and to mark the 100th anniversary of the opening of her first boutique in the French seaside town.

Creative director Karl Lagerfeld also presented lots of glamorous cocktail dresses for after dark with black sheer sections, lace, shimmering sequins and ruffles aplenty (which we expect to see on a Hollywood actress on the red carpet very soon), as well as sporty cricket whites complete with ribbed V-neck jumpers, boyish shirts, leg pads and cricket bats. There was even a bag in the shape of the fashion house's iconic No. 5 perfume bottle.
