Hilary Clinton might have a more-stressful-than-average day job, but even she's prepared to drop everything when it comes to planning her daughter, Chelsea Clinton's wedding.

The US Secretary of State says she has been keeping up to date with Chelsea's upcoming wedding plans via email while juggling weighty issues of global diplomacy on a whistle-stop tour of Eastern Europe.

And while tricky decisions about flower arrangements are now being juggled alongside foreign policy, Hilary Clinton admitted on Polish television that her paramount preoccupation at present are preparations for her 30-year-old daughter's wedding, which is rumoured to be taking place in New York at the end of the month.

'It truly is the most important thing in my life right now,' she said.

Washington has been buzzing with rumours about wedding plans ever since Chelsea announced her engagement to Goldman Sachs banker Marc Mezvinsky in November last year. US newspaper reports this weekend suggest the ceremony will take place on 31 July at the Astor Courts, 100 miles north of New York City.

Despite Hilary's hectic travel schedule she says she is fully involved in the wedding plans, fitting in dress selections and all other things a mother-of-the-bride must do.

'Luckily we have email now. I can communicate and people can send me pictures of flower arrangements and other kinds of decisions,' she added.

And, it is not just mother and daughter that are in full-fledged wedding mode: Bill Clinton is allegedly slimming down for the big day in order to look good while walking Chelsea down the aisle.

The marriage, which it is rumoured Barack Obama will attend, will be an interfaith affair, as the Clintons are Baptist, while Mezvinsky's family is Jewish.

Like his wife-to-be, Mezvinsky grew up with parents in politics - both are former Democratic members of Congress - and again like Chelsea he's had to weather storms surrounding their behaviour with his father having only been released from prison two years ago, after serving a five-year sentence for fraud. Should make for some interesting converstations on the top table.
