Last week, it was reported smouldering Drive star Ryan Gosling was set to take the lead, after it emerged he was frontrunner to play S&M enthusiast Christian Grey in the big budget movie remake of EL James' raunchy bestseller.
Next, rumours hit that sultry British star Robert Pattinson could be the man to beat, with some suggesting his Twilight co-star and girlfriend Kristen Stewart could even take the role of Christian Grey's lover Anastasia Steele.

In another twist, Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder and Star Trek's Chris Pine were both thrown into the the mix, with British Superman actor Henry Cavill also thought to be among the contenders.
Meanwhile, fans have suggested Michael Fassbender, Ryan Reynolds, Eddie Redmayne, Eric Bana, Ed Westwick and even Zac Efron. (Yes, really!)
But before we get too excited, Fifty Shades of Grey author EL James recently revealed there have been no decisions made, and everything's still to play for - but she does have a few actors in mind.
Remaining coy on her shortlist of four favoured Christian Grey candidates, she said: 'I’m not telling anyone what they are because I’m not allowed to discuss the movie at all which is a real shame.'
