Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise treated themselves to ice cream on a hot evening in New York

The show must go on for Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise and, despite the extra attention Holmes' divorce from Tom Cruise has brought, the mother and daughter headed out for ice cream in New York City last night.

Holmes has kept little Suri behind closed doors ever since the news of her split from Cruise was announced, but yesterday evening the twosome went to an ice-cream parlour in Manhattan for some quality time.

Despite the hordes of photographers and onlookers keen to get a snap of the high profile pair, Holmes and Suri shared some lovely moments as they snacked on sweet treats.

Despite the drama and impending divorce, Holmes, 33, looked happy, relaxed and even gave a smile to the waiting photographers as she carried a tired Suri, 6, to their waiting car.

Holmes and Suri were flanked by burly bodyguards as they made their way back to their new Chelsea apartment, which is coincidentally the same pad that Penelope Cruz fled to after her break-up with Cruise in 2004.
