Kate Middleton and Prince William have snuck off on a secret Scottish break, for some much-needed R&R before their upcoming Diamond Jubilee tour, according to reports.

KATE MIDDLETON TO LIE LOW AFTER JUBILEE TOUR

It's thought the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have returned to their student hideout for their romantic holiday, on the Queen's Scottish estate of Balmoral.

According to Now, William and Kate are staying in pretty Tam-na-Ghar cottage, for a little alone time after their hectic Olympic fortnight. The couple are also set to jet off on a whirlwind Diamond Jubilee tour on behalf of the Queen next month.

Royal watchers say the idyllic getaway has huge significance to Kate Middleton and Prince William, who once spent a happy Hogmanay there before their engagement.

'They are both big romantics and like to return to the places that mean a lot to them,' editor of Majesty magazine, Ingrid Sewell said of the pair.

'I think William will have in mind a romantic night in one of the estate's more isolated cottages - that is the way they seem to like to spend their special moments.'

She continued: 'One Hogmanay, William surprised Kate with a date in a fire-lit log cabin. She and William shared estate cottage Tam-na-Ghar during their breaks as students from St Andrews. It has been done-up very well - but there are several other 'favourite' cottages around the estate they use, which are far more basic.'

Last week it was revealed Kate Middleton was set to lie low after a string of Olympic appearances and a hectic few weeks, as she prepares for only her second official overseas tour.

According to reports, Kate has a relatively quiet schedule over the coming weeks, which will allow her time to prepare for her upcoming Diamond Jubilee tour with Prince William and enjoy some private time in his company.

William and Kate will visit the rain forests of Borneo as well as Malaysia, Singapore, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu during their tour, which begins on Tuesday 11th September.
