Kate Middleton has just whisked Prince George off for his first foreign holiday, with the pair swapping Britain's dreary winter drizzle for a spot of Caribbean sun.

According to royal insiders, the Duchess of Cambridge has flown to Mustique with her six-month-old son to celebrate mum Carole's 59th birthday.

'Friends confirm that Kate has flown to Mustique with Prince George on a Middleton family holiday. William will remain in the UK studying', royal reporter Richard Palmer posted on Twitter.

Also joined by father Michael, brother James and sister Pippa, Kate will no doubt be enjoying some much-needed Middleton family time on the exotic island.

Sadly, Prince William has been forced to forgo any beach-based fun with his wife and son, as he is in the midst of his 10-week-long agricultural course at Cambridge University.

The trip marks Prince George's first foreign holiday, with his next overseas escape coming in April when he will join the Duke and the Duchess for their royal tour of Australia and New Zealand.

In a break from royal tradition, baby George is expected to travel alongside his parents – despite royal protocol not permitting two immediate heirs to the throne to fly together.
