Jennifer Aniston, an Oscar winner? It just might happen, ladies and gents.
The rom-com queen is generating lots of Oscar buzz with her role in new movie Cake. The Friends star's portrayal of a woman suffering from chronic pain and addiction issues has already received rave reviews from critics at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she received a standing ovation, which apparently brought her to tears.
At a Q&A in Toronto, Jen said of the career-changing role: 'It was a no-brainer. Just reading Patrick’s script I actually saw myself doing it. I just felt like it was already happening and it was pretty easy to say "yes." It was such a beautiful, complex, layered, tortured character. I just tapped into something I was meant to do,'
Now, it's looking even more likely that Ms Aniston could get a Best Actress nomination because the filmmakers have decided to release the film before the year is out so that it qualifies for Oscar consideration.
Cake’s director and executive-producer Daniel Barnz said: 'When my life and producing partner Ben Barnz and I first read Cake just fourteen months ago, we knew we had to go to Jennifer Aniston. It was the most obvious un-obvious choice – she’s mega-talented, but we’ve never seen the whole range of her extraordinary comic and dramatic abilities showcased in one role.'
Following in the footsteps of one-time rom-com king Matthew McConaughey and his McConaissance, could this be the star's Jenanaissance? Ok, it doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but we're rooting for you all the same, Jen.
