The Harry Potter star talks 'awful' freshman week, being the 'worst' in acting class and student parties

She might have millions in the bank, a role in one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and a career as a fledging fashionista to boot, but Emma Watson has revealed that life didn't prove quite so easy when she attempted to be just another student at US university, Brown.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, the Brit actress has opened up on her uni experience, and revealed how it wasn't all plain sailing.

'It was just awful,' she said of her very first week. 'I was like, I must be mad. Why am I doing this?'

Luckily, help came in the form of a roomate with no interest whatsoever in Harry Potter, and fitting into the student social scene. 'I felt like I'd walked into an American teen movie' she said of her first uni party. 'I picked up the red cups. I was like, Wow, they really do drink from these.'

Watson is now studying European women's history and acting, and while she might already have a bulging CV in the film world, she divulged: 'I think actually I'm the worst person in the class'

And though she might have settled into a life of studying, Hollywood still calls. The Brit actress attended the star-studded Costume Institute Gala this week in a custom-made Burberry gown, and will hit the publicity trail yet again at the end of the year, for the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
