We talk exclusively to Ellie Goulding...
Ellie Goulding is one busy lady, not only is the 28-year-old travelling the world promoting her new album, Delirium, the Brit beauty has also found time to team up with luxury Italian lingerie label Intimissimi, collaborating on their incredible Intimissimi On Ice Ball in Verona.
With a stage wardrobe created for the figure skaters by Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field, and an impressive front row packed full of stylish celebrities including Irina Shayk, Eva Herzigova and Carol Alt, the annual event was the perfect fit for Ellie Goulding, who performed three singles, and showcased some showstopping outfits both on the red carpet in a floor-grazing red silk gown, and on the ice in a series of black sheer numbers.
We managed to catch up with Ellie ahead of her performance to chat perfect fitting lingerie, her gruelling fitness regime and unexpectedly, a secret love of Craig David…
On the perfect underwear…
'Well I genuinely love Intimissimi. It’s the comfiest, well-fitted bra. There are a few brands that I like. I don’t go too crazy with lingerie. I like something that’s classic and simple. I think simple can always be sexy – like black or red. My boyfriend likes me more in pyjamas; he never says “oh go get some more lingerie”, it’s not really that vibe. I might surprise him and buy something nice.'
On the new album…

'I feel like things are good. I feel like this album is the best one I’ve done so far. I’ve spent the most time on it, I’ve really crafted it to be what it is, and worked with very specific people on it. All of us, my team, my management, my friends – we all feel that there is this buzz round it, that’s different form the others. I feel like I’m a confident person at the moment. I feel like I’ve settled in to what I do. I know everything that comes with it a lot more than what I used it.
On her favourite high street brands…
I love Topshop, obviously. I love Urban Outfitters. I love River Island. Those were the three shops I grew up around in Herford, my hometown.'
On her favourite designers…
'I’m just having a fashion frenzy – I love everything at the moment. I love Isabel Marant, I actually love Versus Versace, they’re just killing it. Obviously I love Saint Laurent, it’s always my favourite thing. I love Fendi, I love Balenciaga – I’ve been wearing lots of Victoria Beckham lately. She invited me to her event. She’s so lovely and down to earth. Dougie loved that event, he met loads of Burberry people. I feel so lucky that I’m wearing all these great clothes at the moment.' On her boyfriend Dougie Poynter's style…
'He looks incredible everyday, he dresses really immaculately, he loves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, Burberry – he always looks really polished.' On fitness…
'At the moment I’ve been chilling out. I think it’s important to show my fans that I’m not a robot, I’m human and I break every now and then. I feel like I’m really relaxed. The other day my friends and I tried out the new insanity, which is 30 minutes of cardio. Instead of putting myself under pressure saying, I’ve chilled out a bit with it, and I’m doing what I feel like. I think a lot of trainers give you this misconception that once you’re fit that’s it, but you’ve got to find a good balance.
The things I hate I make myself do more, because it’s challenging. TRX, Barry’s Bootcamp, I do this thing called SPC, which is really hard, it’s sick inducing, but the results are instant. '
On healthy eating and listening to your body… 'Some trainers say you can’t eat any carbs, and I think that’s wrong. My trainer’s very realistic – he gives me a cheat day. I am still very normal, I eat chocolate, I just listen to my body. If my body feels gross, I will go and work out, overall I just balance the good and bad. '
On the best workout music…
'I really like Disclosures new album, I was lucky enough to have been sent it a while ago. I do like a lot of electronic music, and house – but I’ve been listening to the Apple radio. I just switch on workout pop or workout dance, that’s been working really well for me lately. ' On strong female role models in the music industry…
'I think women have always been incredibly strong – a good example is the Suffragette film at the moment, showing how long feminism has been around. I believe in equal rights, I’m one of the strongest women I know. I just think we need more equality. I think that my music is inclined to help more females then males, because I am female and have been in those situations. I’m sure men have been in situations to, so I’m definitely a sympathizer of certain situations and relationships. I like to highlight positives. I think a lot of things are changing, and you can’t really be misogynistic anymore. Sorry tough luck, it’s going to be equality now. '
On who she would love to perform at her own wedding…
'I would definitely have Bjork. I would like to have Ben Howard perform for me, I’d love Beyonce and Craig David, I love Craig David.'
