Downton Abbey's Michelle Dockery has proved she can pull off funny just as well as prim and proper in a hilarious new spoof video in which she transforms into a modern-day crime-fighting cop.

Released alongside the Emmy-winning period drama's fourth-series premiere in the US last night, the clip is narrated by Mad Men's Jon Hamm and disguises itself as a fictitious trailer for a new TV drama called 'Tough Justice'.

Trading her dainty demeanor for tough talk and some serious ass-kicking, it's Michelle like we've never seen her as she pokes fun at her well-to-do alter-ego, Lady Mary.

Playing Connie Tough, a gun-wielding detective who solves crimes alongside her perplexed partner (played by Michael Chiklis), the clip shows Michelle replacing flapper dresses and pearls for fitted jeans, a masculine suit jacket and one thoroughly convincing Chicago accent.

But while Michelle may have those badass police moves nailed, it seems the actress finds herself having a bit of a hard time letting go of her deep-rooted Lady Mary habits...

Forgetting her 21st century surroundings, Connie is seen calling for Carson to bring the car around, pulling on a pair of elegant long satin gloves to inspect a body at a crime scene and stopping for a hair and make-up pitstop at her dressing table in the middle of the action. Brilliant.

Michelle's latest 'role' may actually be more apt than we think, though - the Downton Abbey actress is set to star in upcoming action thriller Non-Stop alongside Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore, due for release on February 28, where her Lady Mary crown will no doubt slip even further.

For now, catch Dockery in action below and get ready for a giggle...
