Could the news be true that Simon Cowell was in love with Dannii Minogue?

Simon Cowell and Dannii Minogue had a secret affair, according to a new book about the music mogul's life.

The tell-all book by former BBC journalist Tom Bower is called The Intimate Life Of Simon Cowell and will be published next month.

In it, Cowell is quoted as saying: 'I had a crush on her. It was Dannii's hair, the sexy clothes and the t**s. I was like a schoolboy.

'She was foxy. She was a real man's girl. Very feminine. It was genuine love.

'Every guy in the world fancies Dannii. She's become a sex symbol since joining the show, and the contestants love her. She's got that Sophia Loren, movie-star sex appeal, I love sitting next to her,' Cowell added.

It's thought that the alleged fling took place in 2007 before Minogue got together with Kris Smith, the father of her 21-month-old child, Ethan.

The book also claims that Cowell, 52, then became 'mesmerised' with Cheryl Cole once his short-lived relationship with Minogue ended.

Both parties are yet to comment on the reports of a secret affair and over the weekend Cowell simply tweeted: 'Just seen the TV ad for the unauthorised book on me. Yikes!

While friends of Minogue have apparently said that the Australian singer is 'distraught' that these reports have come out at the same time as she's going through a break-up with Kris.

They told the Mirror: 'She’s understandably distraught by all of this coming out just as she’s struggling to cope with the breakdown of her relationship with Kris.

'It was all such a long time ago and to have to deal with it now in the wake of the last few weeks is just too much. She is incredibly raw and this is the last thing she wants to endure.'
