The sheepish star paid tribute to fans as he celebrated his win at the glittering Vanity Fair post-Oscar party, revealing he was thrilled to feel people ‘rooting for him’ at home.

Unfortunately, the Brit actor forgot that part of his acceptance speech, instead joking: ‘I have a feeling my career has just peaked.’

But Colin was determined to set records straight, and thank those who flocked to see him play monarch George VI in The King’s Speech.

‘It meant a lot to me, that feeling of people rooting for me at home,’ Colin told the Sun of his Oscar win.

‘I actually wrote a speech and forgot it. And that was when it came to me, that support at home. I felt it - it was very important to me.’
