Cameron Diaz tells Jay Leno she 'burst into tears' when a friend accidentally cut her hair short

Blonde bombshell Cameron Diaz has revealed she 'burst into tears' after a friend accidentally chopped off her long locks.

Appearing on the Jay Leno show last night, the actress said she never intended for her long blonde tresses to be chopped off. 'There was a little misunderstanding. I said I just wanted a little bit cut off and it went from here to here,' Cameron Diaz told the host as she gestured two very different hair lengths.

'It was one of those moments where I just couldn’t … I just burst into tears.'

'I felt so vulnerable. For a woman to all of a sudden have no hair,' she continued. 'Oh my God!'

Shunning a chic LA hair salon for a pre-Christmas cut in her friend's kitchen, Cameron explained: 'It was the night before she was leaving to go away for Christmas with her family.

'It was 10 o'clock at night and we were running around just trying to get in the haircut,' she said.

When asked how she reacted, Cameron Diaz joked: 'I yelled at her, I screamed at her. No, she felt really bad. I felt really bad. She started crying. I started crying.'

Before adding that the situation had smoothed over: 'I ended up writing her a few emails after, the next couple days, assuring her I wasn’t going to kill her,' she said.

The actress also added that she was looking forward to turning 40, 'I'm so excited,' she said.

'When I was in my 20s, I couldn't wait to get to my 30s. Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm so looking forward to my 40s. I love getting older.'
