Beyonce and Jay-Z enjoy a basketball date in New York

Beyonce and Jay-Z are rarely seen anywhere but the basketball court these days and the couple continued with their sport-themed dates on Monday with a trip to see the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks.

Beyoncé and her rapper husband sat courtside to watch the Nets beat the Knicks, which will have kept Jay-Z happy as he part owns the Brooklyn basketball team.

Beyoncé, 31, wore leather trousers and plenty of bling for her night out at the Barclays Centre.

Their public outing comes as Beyoncé announced she is going to direct and star in a personal documentary that will air on HBO next February.

The fly-on-the-wall documentary will follow Beyoncé backstage at gigs, in the recording studio, as well as giving her fans a glimpse at the star's notoriously private home life with husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy.

About her project, Beyoncé said: ''HBO has a history of pushing every boundary with class and authenticity. This film was so personal to me, it have to have the right home.'

While HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said: 'Everybody knows Beyonce's music, but few know Beyoncé the person. Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé on stage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.'
