The Sons Of Anarchy actor, picked to play the S&M-loving CEO Christian Grey, has spoken about his new role for the very first time
50 Shades Of Grey’s Charlie Hunnam has spoken for the very first time about his decision to take on the coveted role of the S&M-obsessed CEO Chrisitan Grey, and exactly how he’ll tackle those delicate sex scenes with Dakota Johnson.
The 33-year-old actor was walking the red carpet in LA on Saturday to promote the sixth season of his TV show, Sons Of Anarchy, when he was questioned about 50 Shades Of Grey: The Movie.
He said: ‘I’m just very excited and honoured to be entrusted with bringing this incredible character to life.
‘This guy as he exists in the film is such an incredible role… it’s a real honour and I’m very, very excited about it.’
Dakota Johnson, who rose to fame when she appeared in bed alongside Justin Timberlake in The Social Network, will play Anastasia Steele, which means she’ll be stripping off for some VERY explicit sex scenes with Charlie Hunnam.
Producers of the new movie have revealed that they chose Charlie and Dakota for the roles because of their ‘incredible chemistry’, despite many fans being disappointed that favourites Ryan Gosling, Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder didn’t make the cut.
So will Charlie be blushing when he has to enter the Red Room Of Pain? Charlie adds: ‘I’ve always been historically fairly fearless about sexuality in film.
‘I’ve done sex scenes before, my first ever job was on the Channel Four miniseries Queer as Folk, and there was very explicit sexual stuff in there. That was a baptism of fire for me, and if I could do it when I was 18, I’m certainly not going to sweat it at 33.’
