The hunt is still on for Charlie Hunnam's replacement in the Hollywood blockbuster
50 Shades Of Grey fans are in for some disappointing news today. Sources have now confirmed that Robert Pattinson will NOT be replacing Charlie Hunnam for the coveted lead role of Christian Grey in the on-screen adaptation of E.L. James’ bestselling novel.
After Sons of Anarchy star Charlie pulled out of the film last week, the hunt has been on to find a new Hollywood hunk to step into Christian’s mighty shoes. But while Dior heartthrob Rob might be many 50 Shades of Grey fans’ number one choice, it seems the spotlight-shunning actor will not be taking up the role. Sob.
According to sources, the 27-year-old actor is determined to take a step back from appearing in another big-screen blockbuster after reaching dizzying heights of fame following his part as Edward Cullen in vampire franchise Twilight.
‘Rob is not going to change his mind for doing the film, he doesn’t want to commit to multiple films and another franchise’, a movie insider told HollywoodLife.
‘He wants his career to go in a completely different route. Add that to the fact that he is not the number one pick from the producers, it's just not happening.’
Rumours first began circulating that Rob could be in the running when he was said to be 50 Shades author E.L. James’ first choice after being seen looking cosy with the novelist at an LA party earlier this summer.
But it seems our dreams of seeing Kristen Stewart's smouldering ex getting kinky on the silver screen alongside fellow lead Dakota Johnson, who will play Ana Steele, just aren't meant to be.
Rob being cut from the list of potential Mr. Greys means the search is still on - and with only weeks to go until filming begins, the casting directors have their work cut out for them. Will it be new frontrunner Jamie Dornan that comes out trumps? Or maybe Matt Bomer or Alexander Skarsgard will pip him to the post.
