Charlotte Tilbury has been awarded one of the highest accolades in the United Kingdom. The famed make-up artist and founder of Charlotte Tilbury Beauty will receive an MBE for her services to the beauty and cosmetics industry as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2018.
MBEs, which stands for Member of the Order of the British Empire, are awarded to those who the honours committee deem to have achieved something special. These nominations are then approved by the Prime Minister's office. So you know, it's kind of a big deal.
It's no shock to be honest, Tilbury has been working at the forefront of the beauty industry for over two decades. She has worked on over 400 editorial and advertising campaigns, won countless industry awards - including Fashion Creator at the British Fashion Awards - and of course, she launched her hugely successful eponymous cosmetics line. *Side note - the Marie Claire beauty team believe she should be awarded an MBE for her eye shadow quads alone.*
Her brand, which launched in 2013, has gone from strength to strength and continues to create bestselling products across the globe. It's one of the fastest growing beauty brands, whilst still remaining independent.
'I feel incredibly honoured and very proud to receive an MBE in this year’s Queen's Birthday Honours List,' Tilbury says. 'To be recognised for my services to the beauty industry as both a makeup artist and entrepreneur is an amazing personal accolade which means so much to me. I have been fortunate enough to work at the forefront of the beauty industry for over two decades which has allowed me to share my vision with the world, changing the way women, from 18-80, perceive themselves through the use of makeup. I have always been passionate about empowering women and helping them to feel confident and the most beautiful versions of themselves through the power of beauty, it inspired my philosophy ‘Give a woman the right makeup and she can conquer the world! There are so many people I want to express my thanks and gratitude towards. From my wonderful industry peers who have supported me throughout my 25+ year career and who I have built such close relationships with, to my incredible team of limitless thinkers who helped me to create and continue to push the boundaries with my award-winning brand and of course my amazing family, who I couldn’t have done any of this without. I always say it takes a team to build a dream, and this is a dream come true for me.'
Congratulations from all the team at Marie Claire.
