Textiles designer Sam Barrows gives us her edit of the new season home trends

'Fresh, optimistic and desirable’ are the three words Sam Barrows uses to describe the Sainsbury’s summer collections. As its in-house textile designer, she explains the inspiration behind one of her favourites, the Hinterland collection.
‘I love vintage and nostalgic designs as well as looking at different craft techniques from various cultures,’ she says. ‘For Hinterland, we looked at mark-making techniques to create patterns on home accessories and textiles.’
Warm earthy tones of mustard yellows, tan leather and tribal red are the backdrop for sgrafitto patterns across the collection. Natural materials feature largely, with carved mango wood, terracotta and brass accessories.
‘This trend is ideal for layering to create a vibrant look for summer,’ Sam says. Her penchant for eye-catching detail and trend-led finishes are reflected in key picks from across the range, including vibrant tribal-inspired picnicware, table runners and napkins.
The Hinterland collection for the home and garden uses the same mark-making designs with stylish geometrics that are distinctly African in style. 'Mix and match natural tones with the beautiful accessories and textiles available,’ says Sam.
