Move over Colin the Caterpillar.

Be still our beating hearts, Sainsbury’s has just launched the best cake of all time. There’s always going to be a time and place for a beautiful floral gateau, but we’re all about the brand new sausage dog cakes that have just been released. They’re genuinely making us a little emotional and they’ve even named the little pupper, so say hello and get ready to eat Sammy the Sausage Dog.

He (or she, Sammy could stand for Samantha) is absolutely adorable and it definitely doesn’t hurt that the cake’s pretty affordable, priced at just £10. It also sounds positively delicious, as Sammy’s made from a chocolate sponge filled with chocolate flavoured buttercream — topped off with icing and a cute edible collar.

According to Sainsbury’s, people all over the world are totally mad for sausage dogs as there’s currently over 2.7 million Instagram posts about them. Even before this cake dropped, searches for ‘sausage dog items’ on their website alone had spiked by 65%. They basically created this cake to give the people what they want and we for one are grateful to them for it.

They’ve also released a couple of other fun cakes, including a smiley Debra the Zebra and my personal favourite - NANCY THE NARWHAL. Who said unicorns had to have all the fun? Both Debra and Nancy are Madeira sponge cakes filled with raspberry jam and Sainsbury’s is totally speaking my language RN.

So, if you’ve been charged with buying the office birthday cake – put that uninspired frosted cake down because you’ve got cuter options now.

Honestly, who could say no to those little icing eyes?
