Alexander Wang for H&M. That's right. It's happening.

What joy it was to hear the news about H&M's collaboration with Alexander Wang. H&M’s much-feted designer collaborations always send the Internet into a ‘who will it be next?’ freefall. Speculation post-Isabel Marant, whose own collection in collaboration with the high street giant dropped in November of last year, has been rife. Joy, then, to discover it will be none other than Alexander Wang.

The New Yorker, who is also currently creative director at Balenciaga, is an accessories aficionado and sport-luxe lord. The H&M collaboration doesn’t drop until November 2014, but what can we expect from the Wangster? Here’s a short list of Alexander Wang’s signature styles that we’d love to see H&M tackle.

1. The suit

As much as Alexander Wang’s look is about M.O.D (model-off-duty, to you and me) he doesn’t half have a thing for some sleek Wall Street influenced tailoring. Wang consistently uses suit material, white collars and button down shirts as a touch point when designing. His pre-fall AW14 line is a master class in androgynous cool and AW14 left us in no doubt of his suiting skills.

2. Oversized outerwear

Wang favours oversized silhouettes and dropped waists, so we’re expecting to see a cocoon coat or two, most likely in a fuzzy texture. See AW12 for guidance.

3. The Rocco bag

You’re not a true fashion mega-power until you create an ‘IT’ bag. His iconic Rocco bag is instantly recognisable: pebbled leather and gold hardware studs that line the base of the bag. The Olsens have one, Rihanna has one - and we're hoping for a purse-friendly high street spin-off.

4. The slogan sweater

We’d bet you anything there’ll be a sporty sweater or two in the mix. Wang’s spongey-mesh ‘Parental Advisory’ jumper that Georgia-May Jagger rocked for SS14 is already a street style cult classic.

5. The windbreaker

Aertex never looked so good as it does in the hands of this man. His first SS11 collection looked Olympic Park-worthy and the all-American sportsstar is inherent to this atelier’s DNA. For AW14 Wang breathed life into the mac and did pretty silk windbreakers. For SS13, when Liberty Ross, who had been spectacularly betrayed by her husband's affair with Kristen Stewart, modelled a simple windbreaker looking stronger than ever it was a... Total. Fashion.
