Cannes Film Festival has long been a stellar affair, with some of Hollywood's most glamorous stars jetting into the event to soak up the sun year after year, since way back when.

Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot - you name the iconic celebrity, the annual event has at some point hosted them.

In celebration of this year's Cannes Film Festival, now in it's 69th year, we've rounded-up some of the most beautiful and memorable pictures of all time.

From the likes of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg soaking up the sun on the beach in 1974, surrounded by photographers and looking totally at ease, to David Bowie in a slick suit and t-shirt combo ahead of a star-studded premiere in 1976 - there have been plenty of memorable occasions that have happened off the well-documented red carpet.
