These were the best dressed celebrities of 2017
Special mention to Gigi for nailing 90s street style all year
Special mention to Gigi for nailing 90s street style all year
Let's be honest, 2017 was a bit of a crap year. The Harvey Weinstein scandal and Donald Trump spring to mind. But when it came to fashion, it was pretty epic. The year started off with a bang thanks to awards season and some incredible red carpet dresses, followed by Fashion Month in February with some covetable street style looks, and then more recently the Fashion Awards.
So I thought I'd give you a little rundown of the best looks of 2017, you know ICYMI (and do check out our edit of the best dressed of 2016 too)...
Best celebrity street style
It's hard to beat Olivia Palermo, aka the Fashion Week street style queen, but for the sake of changing things up this year, I thought I'd pick another fave: Emily Ratajkowski. She's the ultimate California girl, and looks effortlessly put-together whether she's wearing denim cut-offs and biker boots, or something a bit dressier. I love this Clueless-inspired jumpsuit she wore to an LA basketball game this month, paired with the yellow handbag she designed with the Kooples.
Best blogger street style
If you're in the know when it comes to fashion blogs, you'll know everyone's talking about German blogger Caro Daur. I'm a bit obsessed with her style because you never know what you're going to get. One day it might be a ballgown and sneakers, another it could be a feather top and beret, checked blazer and jeans.
Best celebrity red carpet
This was a tough one to pick, because there were SO many fabulous outfits throughout the year at various premieres and awards, but I did absolutely love Emma Stone's wardrobe when she was promoting La La Land. There was something old-Hollywood about her gowns, which nicely echoed the film. While the actress' Oscars Givenchy dress was lovely, for me, the real winner was the custom Valentino dress she wore to the Golden Globes, which featured a scattering of silver stars on the palest of pinks. Gorgeous.
Last minute entry: Daisy Ridley in a starry Monse dress for the LA premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. I'm clearly a bit obsessed with galaxy prints this year.
Best shoe moment
Not exactly a surprise, but I don't think anyone has ever talked about boots as much as they did the Saint Laurent glitter boots, seen on the runway at Paris Fashion Week. Here there are in all their shimmering glory, in motion and still. It's no surprise the likes of Kendall Jenner and Rihanna snapped them up, and they sold out within hours of going on sale.
Best celebrity couple style
I'll be honest, I'm a little obsessed with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. Blake Lively's style is on point to begin with, but when she teams up with Ryan on the red carpet, it's even better. Something about the sharp tuxedos or the loved-up looks, not sure which. And did I mention they troll each other in the most hilarious way? Just check out Blake's birthday post for Ryan.
Here they are at the Met Gala and the Golden Globes. Blake wore an extravagant gold sequin dress with blue feather trim by Atelier Versace for the Gala, while for the Globes, she opted for a more demure black velvet Versace dress. Just perfect.
Best BFF red carpet moments
Because just because you don't have a significant other doesn't mean you can't slay the red carpet. No one does BFF style like Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps, who are always each others' dates on the red carpet. Here they are, doing their thing on the red carpet at the Oscars, in matching monochrome, Michelle in Louis Vuitton and Busy in Elizabeth Kennedy.
But I couldn't not mention the female cast of Big Little Lies, who looked all the more amazing for the Emmy Awards they all picked up. Special mention to Nicole Kidman's red Calvin Klein dress.
Best supermodel style
Move over Gigi and Bella, we have two new winners in the supermodel category, both of which have had everyone talking this year.
First up: Kaia Gerber. All eyes were on Cindy Crawford's daughter as she virtually walked every runway the past Fashion Month.
Next to Brit Adwoa Aboah, who has had a strong year, starting off on the runways of Fashion Week and ending with the cover of the first edition of Vogue edited by Edward Enninful, with a smattering of designer campaigns along the way. Here, she wears a glittering creation by Halpern for the Fashion Awards.
Best outrageous Kardashian moments
Love 'em or hate 'em, the Kardashians certainly know how to work both red carpet and street style. You've got to give it to Kim, she's not afraid show off what her mama gave her, and why not? She looked pretty incred in this cut-out dress. Vintage Tom Ford for Gucci darling.
For a more demure style though, I'm loving Kendall's off duty and dressier looks, like this striking Giambattista Valli Couture gown she wore to the Cannes Film Festival. It worked extra hard and looked impeccable from all angles, as you'll see by all the pap shots.
Best catwalk style
Sorry Bella, Kaya and Kendall, but there really was only on squad who ruled the catwalk this year, and it was the 90s supermodel squad. Carla Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen shimmered down the runway at the Versace show in Milan Fashion Week, as a special tribute to Gianni Versace and it was MAGICAL. Just look at them!
Best Royal style
Last but not least, we have not one but two Royals. Well more one Royal and another Royal-to-be if we're being specific.
Kate Middleton wowed us earlier this year on her tour to Poland and Germany, and experimented with styles we've not seen her in before. I especially loved this off-the-shoulder Alexander McQueen dress, which she wore to a garden party in Germany, paired with Jimmy Choo heels.
And then of course, there's Meghan Markle, which we're about to see a lot more of. The outfit she wore to announce her engagement - a coat by Canadian brand Line the Label, dress by Italian brand P.A.R.O.S.H and shoes by Aquazurra - promptly sold out, so expect much more of the Meghan effect soon...
So all in all, quite a good year for style. Who knows what 2018 will bring, eh?

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
