Gwendoline Christie put herself forward for an Emmy nomination because why not?

Game of Thrones may be finished for good (sob) but we haven't been able to stop talking about it. The TV series and its cast and crew have cleaned up at award ceremonies in previous years, but it made headlines when the 2019 Emmy nominations were announced. The 71st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are set to take place in September with the ceremony returning to LA’s Microsoft Theatre, and the popular HBO show is looking to take home more than a few awards. Between the cast, crew and everyone in between there are a record 32 nominations for a gong this year. Impressive.

Game of Thrones nominees include Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams and Kit Harington (go Starks), as well as Gwendoline Christie, Alfie Allen and Carice van Houten.

However, the latter three actors decided to put themselves forward for recognition when HBO didn't. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they paid a $225 (£180) entry fee and it has definitely paid off. It's not uncommon for stars to nominate themselves, with Rob Lowe and Matthew Perry doing just that in previous years.

Gwendoline, who played Ser Brienne of Tarth, shared the news on Instagram, writing: 'I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!????!?!!?!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Fans were also thrilled with the nomination for Alfie Allen (who played Theon Greyjoy), particularly because his sister Lily penned a song about him on her debut album calling him 'lazy' and singing: 'You need to get a job because the bills need to get paid'.

Entertainment writer Jillian Sederholm wrote on Twitter: 'Imagine your famous pop star sister writes a whole song literally named after you about what a stoner jobless loser you are, and then you become one of the best characters on the most popular TV show in the world and get an Emmy nomination for it.'

Sounds like he took her advice and is having the last laugh after all.
