‘Then I hung up’

Meghan Markle has a difficult relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, something that has plagued her first few months as a royal.

The Markles as a whole have created a lot of drama around the now Duchess of Sussex, from estranged nephew Tyler Dooley naming his cannabis business after her to estranged half sister Samantha Grant rumoured to be appearing on Celebrity Big Brother.

The loudest noise however has surrounded Meghan’s father for the simple reason that his actions were unexpected.

There was the ongoing drama of whether he would be walking her down the aisle, not to mention his staged photographs for the press, and appearance on Good Morning Britain, even talking about Princess Diana in some controversial comments this month, announcing it would be his last ever interview.

It seems that our sigh of relief was premature however, as the 74-year-old went public yet again, divulging about his contact with his son-in-law, Prince Harry, in an interview with The Mail on Sunday over the weekend.

‘He said, “They will eat you alive’, Thomas recalled, before now admitting: ‘He was right’.

Thomas then explained how after ignoring Harry’s advice to stay away from the press, the two men had a heated phone call, resulting in Meghan’s father hanging up the phone on Prince Harry.

According to Thomas, he lied to the 33-year-old prince about the staged paparazzi photos in a phone call in the run up to the wedding, but it was their second phone call however that seemed the most heated.

Harry reportedly called Thomas when he was recovering from a heart attack, telling him, ‘If you had listened to me this would never have happened.’

‘Maybe it would be better for you guys if I was dead’, Thomas recalled replying. ‘Then you could pretend to be sad.’

‘Then I hung up,’ he explained.

‘I’m not mad at Harry. I'm not mad at Meghan. I love them,’ he concluded. ‘I wish them well. But as for the rest of it, fuck it. I'm done.’

Kensington Palace has yet to comment.
