After the global success of her make-up brand, Fenty Beauty, Rihanna is now making her mark in the skincare world
With her hugely successful music career, make-up and fashion lines, it seems fair to wonder if there’s anything Rihanna can’t do. Case in point: she’s now launched her own skincare line, Fenty Skin.
Considering how successful Fenty Beauty has been, and how great her make-up products are, the thought of a skincare line by Rihanna sent us into a frenzy. Here’s what you need to know about the brand and its first products…
Is Fenty Skin available in the UK?
Good news, Fenty Skin ships to the UK from the Fenty Beauty website.
‘I’ve been working on @fentyskin for over 2 years, perfecting formulas and creating packaging that is kind to our planet!!’ Rihanna wrote in a post on the brand’s Instagram. ‘Formulas that work, and work well with makeup!!!
‘Everything starts with the foundation that is your skin and we all know how obsessed I am with beautiful, healthy skin – so whether you want to wear makeup, or no makeup at all, there’s always glowing skin underneath’.
Rumours of a Rihanna skincare line started bubbling last year, when she filed a trademark application for ‘Fenty Skin’ with the United States Patents and Trademark Office. This included ‘non-medicated skin care preparations’, ‘non-medicated soaps’, ‘cosmetic preparations for body care’, ‘medicated skin care preparations’ and ‘skincare product accessory, namely, bags for skincare items sold empty and cosmetic bags sold empty’, to name a few.
The star has also confirmed the line is for all genders, responding to a fan on Twitter with: ‘Whoever told you skincare has a gender, LIED to you!’
Fenty Skin products
Rihanna has now revealed her first three skincare products, the Fenty Skin Start’rs: Total Cleans’r Remove It All Cleanser, Fat Water Pore Refining Toner + Serum, and Hydra Vizor Invisble Moisturizer + SPF.
Total Cleans’r is a deep-cleaning, make-up removing cleanser that’s oil-free, non-comedogenic and vegan. It’s worth noting that the cleanser does contain fragrance, so it may not be for you if you know this irritates your skin.
‘Washing your face is the most important step for good skin,’ Rihanna says. ‘Especially when you’re wearing makeup, breaking a sweat in the club, exercising – whatever your thing is. I wanted to create a really deep cleanser that wouldn’t dry out your skin so you can use it every day and night.’
Step two, Fat Water, is an alcohol-free toner/serum hybrid that’s designed to brighten and smooth skin, reduce shine and target the appearance of dark spots and pores.
‘This is my favorite step in my routine—I’ve never used anything like it before,’ writes Rihanna. ‘It’s a combo of a toner and a serum so it’s a multitasker, like two products in one. It targets pores, dark spots, uneven tone and texture, oil – it’s the secret sauce.’
Lastly, there’s your all-important SPF moisturiser, Hydra Vizor, which is designed to protect and brighten your skin. It’s a pink-tinted cream formulated to suit all skin tones without piling or flashback. Once you finish your first Hydra Vizor, you buy a refill cartridge for £25.
‘You gotta protect your skin from the sun no matter what your skin color is. If you have discoloration, guess what, you can get that from the sun,’ Rihanna says. ‘I think a lot of people with darker skin tones think because they’re not burning that they don’t need SPF but we can still get sun damage.’
It certainly seems like Rihanna has thought of everything. Don’t know about you, we’re extremely excited to get our hands on this lot…
