Whatever your age, a defined jawline is the beauty ideal. These new, high-tech fomulas will help you on your way to a sharper silhouette...

1 Rodial Dragon’s Blood Sculpting Gel, £79 Like non-surgical fillers, this plumped up my skin, giving it more volume. Good for pulling everything upwards if you’ve got the beginning of jowls.

2 YSL Forever Youth Liberator Y-Shape Concentre, £65 I smoothed this over my chest, up my neck and along my jawline every morning and my contours were more defined. A skin workout that feels luxurious.

3 Darphin Stimulskin Plus Reshaping Divine Serum, £159 The high price tag pays for the advanced combination of peptides, which act as industrial scaffolding for skin to counteract gravity. An anti-ageing gem.

5 Clarins Shaping Facial Lift Total V Contouring Serum, £62.45 Caffeine in the guarana extract drains excess fat pockets, and the extensive two-minutes-a-day massage pushed away any fluid, making my profile sleeker.

I recently got ten minutes with Dr Lieve DeClercq – arguably the world’s leading female cosmetic scientist – so I asked her to divulge what’s next in skincare. ‘Shaping,’ she said. ‘Youthfulness is in the contours of the face, not just the texture. There’s been groundbreaking advancements for wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation, so a sagging jawline is the next frontier.’ With age, fluid held around the jaw and a gradual loss of tissue structure forces even the most contoured jawline to lose definition.

Korean women are so obsessed with the heart-shaped face (high juicy cheeks and a perfect V-shaped jawline) that even girls in their early twenties have their jaws surgically altered for a sharper silhouette.

While most of us aren’t troubled enough to go under the knife, we can all admit to pushing the skin on our face upwards in front of the mirror, only to see it migrate slowly down. Thank the beauty heavens, then, for the new wave of tightening products making face-lifts so last season.
