Prince George's school dinners are better than anything we ever saw in the canteen

Not a turkey twizzler in sight

Prince William and Kate Middleton might be expecting their third child, but it's their four-year-old son, Prince George, who has been getting all the attention lately. The tiny royal had his first day of school last week, and the photographs of him in his uniform melted the hearts of the nation.

He may have only been at Thomas's Battersea for a few days, but details about the £6,000-a-term school have been piquing the public's interest. It was revealed that George won't be allowed to have a best friend, and that he isn't the only royal in the classroom.

So when Prince George's school dinner menu came to our attention, it initially brought nostalgic pangs of ice-cream scooped mash and lumpy custard. However, in news that will probably shock no-one and make your mouth water simultaneously, it looks glorious. There's not a single turkey twizzler in sight.

The restaurant quality dinners offer the children at Thomas's everything from lamb ragout to salmon fillets. The school's website states that they provide 'a three week menu cycle, repeated once', and, naturally, it's seasonal. What's on offer 'changes with the season, so that we offer lighter lunches during the lighter days and more substantial meals when the days turn cold.'

Some of the dinners that Prince George can expect look a little bit like this:

  • Freshly prepared authentic lamb ragout with garlic and fresh herbs, organic grated cheese with baton carrots and cucumber, steamed fibre rich whole wheat twisty pasta
  • Baked smoked mackerel on a bed of puy lentils, organic grated cheese, cherry tomatoes and cucumber batons, steamed brown and white rice
  • Freshly prepared pork stroganoff with red pepper strips with steamed baby corn, carrots and mange tout
  • Freshly prepared salmon fillet with a salsa verdi, or chick Pea, spinach and sweet potato curry served with steamed broccoli and cauliflower, and oven baked herby diced potatoes

And it doesn't stop there. For afters, the children can look forward to fresh baked waffles with a fruit coulis and cream, apricot tartlets, or freshly baked Portuguese egg custard tart with strawberries.

It all looks incredible, but it also means that George will never know the joy of crunching into a greasy potato smiley face. Sad.
