Gwen Stefani - January Marie Claire 2013 Marie Claire

Gwen Stefani has revealed that she's found the past couple of years gruelling - what with No Doubt's reunion, running her fashion label and the small matter of being a mother and wife - so much so that she's admitted something had to give. That something was excercise.

Although you wouldn't know it to look at her, Gwen has told Marie Claire that she made the decision to stop working out, as well as learning the art of delegating, to help her deal with her hectic schedule.

GWEN STEFANI FOR MARIE CLAIRE

'I was swimming upstream, trying to balance everything that's been going on with having kids and a family. There's no way to do all these things.'

She added: 'I would be up all night because my second baby didn’t sleep, and he had a lot of ear infections. Then I’d wake up in the morning and do my workout, which I always felt I had to do, and then meetings for my three clothing lines, and then hang out with my kids, take them to preschool – da, da, da.

'At four o’clock, I’d be like, "Alright, I’m out of here. I’m going to go to the studio and try to write a record." I’d sit on the couch [with my band mates] and be like, "Let’s do this now, because I’m missing time with the kids. I could be having dinner with them and putting them to bed." It was really hard.'

Her solution? To be a little easier on herself.

'This past year, I kind of stopped working out. I think my body just needed a break. And so I did that and focused more on feeling good as opposed to beating myself up.

'I've learned to delegate.' Speaking about her fashion label, L.A.M.B., she added: 'It still looks awesome, but did I pick the buttons? No, I didn't. I missed two fashion weeks because they were when school started. I can't miss the first week of kindergarten.'
