Chris Moyles apologises for Polish prostitute comments

Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles has held his hands up and apologised to listeners for his comments that suggested Polish women made good prostitutes.

The BBC came under fire again this week after Moyles suffered from a severe case of foot-in-mouth syndrome, prompting over 100 complaints from listeners and an apology from the funny man.

Last month, Moyles said during his breakfast show: 'I've always found in my experience prostitutes make very good cleaners, and their ironing, brilliant.

'I just find if you're Polish you're just very good at ironing...and prostitutes (they're) very good also at fixing cars.'

However, his remarks backfired and Poles living in Britain felt compelled to launch a petition demanding an apology for the 'offensive and nasty' comments.

Moyles subsequently issued a statement yesterday in the wake of the remarks, attempting to placate those angered by his asides.

'I didn't mean to link Polish people and prostitution in the way that has been suggested, but of course I realise that some people have taken it that way and to those people I'm sorry for the unintentional offence,' said Moyles.

The blunder was another blow for the BBC whose reputation has suffered after the recent controversies over the Andrew Sachs phone call scandal and actor John Barrowman's flash in front of webcams during a broadcast.
