  • Prosecutors claim Oscar Pistorius 'put on his prosthetic legs' to kill partner Reeva Steenkamp, during a bail hearing this morning

Oscar Pistorius reportedly broke down in tears in court this morning, as prosecutors accused him of strapping on his prosthetic legs before walking seven metres to kill his girlfriend.

During the hearing, held to determine whether the athlete would be given bail, Gerrie Nel argued Pistorius intended to kill Reeva Steenkamp.

The prosecutor alleged the gold medal winner grabbed his gun and strapped on his prosthetic legs, before shooting Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius’ lawyers said the killing was ‘not even murder’.

The South African model was shot four times through a bathroom door at Pistorius’ gated complex in Pretoria.

The athlete’s bail hearing comes as Steenkamp’s funeral takes place, in Port Elizabeth.

Her mother, June Steenkamp, told the Times of South Africa: ‘All we want are answers… answers as to why this had to happen, why our beautiful daughter had to die like this.’

Oscar Pistorius was formally charged over the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, last week, after she was found dead on Valentine’s Day.

The South African Olympian and Paraolympian was seen shaking and sobbing after prosecutors said they would pursue a ‘premeditated murder’ charge over the death of his girlfriend.

Oscar was arrested on Thursday morning after a body was discovered at his home in Silverwoods country estate in South Africa. He was taken into custody as police removed a 9mm pistol from the scene.
