All for a good cause, of course
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have teamed up with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for their first official event as a quartet.
Carrying out their first joint engagement together, they appeared on stage in front of a small audience to talk about their ambitions for the future with The Royal Foundation.
Previous projects for the foundation include conservation, supporting communities to protect and conserve their natural resources for future generations, promoting the welfare of those who are serving or who have served their country in the Armed Forces, as well as a huge focus on helping children and young people to build their skills, confidence and aspirations. Plus, their most recent campaign Heads Together, developing programmes to fill needs in the mental health sector.
Kate Middleton, Prince William and Prince Harry are all well known for their charitable work and the newest member of the young royals, Meghan Markle seems to be fitting right in with her royal duties. The forum event showcased the programmes run or initiated by The Royal Foundation, under the theme ‘Making a Difference Together’ and each one of the royals have spoken about topics that mean the most to them.
Prince William opened the event, by outlining the philosophy behind the Foundation, saying, “We would not seek quick wins, but would strive to make a real and lasting difference.”
Meghan Markle backed the #TimesUp and #MeeToo sexual harassment campaigns sating women do not “need to find their voice” and focused her talk on female empowerment issues. While Kate Middleton, who is expecting her third child in April, spoke about the long term commitment of the foundation saying, “The work we do can, and should, have a long-lasting resonance. For this reason, we are able to support causes which we’re passionate about for decades into the future. Rather than just for a few months or years.”
While Prince Harry gave light relief to the talks, joking about the royal foursome “We’re stuck together forever now.”
But it’s clear to see that the four of them are very close. Both the Duke and Duchess were reportedly thrilled at the news of Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s engagement, with Prince William acting as best man to the wedding in St George’s Chapel this May.
