Victoria Beckham will be pleased to hear that her designer friend Roland Mouret isn't taking any credit for her global success – despite helping her on her way to the top.
The designer, whose fans include Kate Middleton and Carey Mulligan, has given a revealing interview to The Evening Standard, in which he reveals just how he helped the Spice Girl turn her hand to fashion.
He says: 'Can she call me a mentor? Yes. I gave her some advice, some names, some people and allowed her to call me whenever she wants. That's all.'
It has long been suggested that Roland helped Victoria Beckham to make a name for herself in the fashion industry and Roland has always firmly denied gossip suggesting he did more than hook her up with some contacts. This time he's gone one step further to cement her industry status, by comparing her to fashion greats Diane von Furstenberg and Estee Lauder.
He adds: 'Some women are businesswomen by the fact that people love and hate them at the same time. She is the most photographed woman, so why should she be photographed in other people's clothes if she can be photographed in her own?
'It was time for the name and product to come together. She is not a designer like me but she has something I don't have: that unique sense of wearing what she is doing, and that picture will go around the world, and sell it.'
