Gucci is making our sci-fi dreams come true

Every now and then, a fashion campaign comes along that’s so amazing it blows your mind a little, and Gucci’s latest ad is one of them, because it simultaneously satisfies our inner geeks and fashion lovers.
The video announces the arrival from outer space (of course) of Gucci’s Autumn/Winter 2017 collection, and it was, as you might have guessed, inspired by Star Trek.
As Gucci put it, 'this season the collection is transported to a parallel universe where a mixed cast of humanoids, aliens, robots and earthlings unite for the Gucci invasion from a galaxy far, far away.'
Dreamed up by Creative Director Alessandro Michele, the campaign was inspired by the sci-fi genre of the 1950s and 60s, including the iconic TV program Star Trek, and directed by Christopher Simmonds and Glen Luchford.
In it, models interact with extra-terrestrial creatures and dinosaurs on Earth, and are beamed up to psychedelic outer space landscapes and face giant cats (a not to one of Gucci's favourite prints) in spaceships. As you do.
As for the fashion? It’s as decadent as it was on the catwalks - think embellishments, floral brocade and snake prints in luxe satin and velvet fabrics.

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.
Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).
Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.
However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.
Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
