  • Actor Elliott Tittensor was placed under arrest for attempted murder after allegedly hitting a teenager with his BMW, with girlfriend Kaya Scodelario in the car

Shamless star Elliott Tittensor has been arrested for attempted murder, after allegedly hitting an 18-year-old man with his BMW, and then driving away.

The actor, famed for his role as Carl Gallagher in the hit Channel 4 series, is alleged to have deliberately driven into the man after he refused to move from in front of his car.

The incident reportedly took place at 2 am in the early hours of Sunday morning in Kentish Town, when Elliott was taking a trip to McDonalds with his actress girlfriend, Kaya Scodelario.

The unnamed 18-year-old is thought to have recognised the famous pair, and attempted to have a conversation with Elliott – following him out of the fast food chain and into the car park.

He then allegedly stood in front of the car and refused to get out of the way.

‘Tittensor apparently deliberately drove his car straight at him,’ said a police spokesperson.

‘Though he was only driving slowly, the boy went up on the bonnet, rolled into the road and struck his head on the kerb.’

Though nothing has yet been confirmed, initial reports suggest that the teenager has been left blind after the incident.

Despite initially driving away from the scene, Elliott then handed himself in to a police station within an hour of the collision, and is thought to have passed a breath test.

18-year-old Kaya, who plays Effy Stonem in popular E4 drama Skins, was in the passenger seat at the time of the incident, and will be a key witness in the investigation.

‘Police were called to reports of a collision involving a BNW Z4 and a pedestrian,’ said a spokesperson for the Metropolitan police.

‘An 18-year-old was taken by London Ambulance service to hospital, suffering from head injuries.’

‘The male driver did not stop at the scene,’ he continued.

‘He later handed himself in to officers at a central London police station and was arrested in connection with the collision.’

Elliott has appeared in Shameless for the past 6 years, while his identical twin brother Luke Tittensor is currently starring in TV soap Emmerdale.

Police confirmed that Elliott has been bailed until mid-September pending a police investigation.
