The star's said to have reacted after catching a paparazzo trying to take pictures up Katy Perry's dress
It’s thought the protective comic reacted angrily to the overenthusiastic snapper, and leapt to Katy’s defense, knocking the photographer to the floor.
But it seems the star’s stunt backfired, and another paperazzo made a citizen’s arrest, detaining him until the police arrived.
‘About 1:50 pm today, Los Angeles Airport Police responded to Terminal 5 to a report of a battery involving a celebrity and a commercial photographer,’ said an airport official, confirming the incident.
‘The victim involved placed the suspect Russell Brand under private person’s arrest.’
Russ was taken to LA’s Pacific Division station, charged with battery and forced to pay a whopping £13,000 bail to free himself.
It’s not yet known whether the case will go to court.
Katy Perry later took to Twitter to defend her future husband, writing: ‘If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiancé will do his job & protect me. #standbyyourman #don’tf**kwiththeBrands’.
And Russell Brand has since joked about the incident, thanking fans for their support.
‘Thanks for your sweet messages of support. After the tips I picked up in chokey I’m an infinitely more proficient criminal,’ he wrote.
