Madonna has upset French political party Front National by using a picture of its leader with the Nazi symbol of a swastika across her face.
Never one to shy away from controversy, Madonna’s MDNA tour has already caused its fair share of controversy – from on-stage breakdowns to nipple-flashing.
Now, Madonna, 53, is being sued by France’s Front National political party after an image of their leader Marine Le Pen with a swastika on her face was shown during her concert at Paris’ Stade De France.
A spokesperson for the party has confirmed that they plan to lodge a lawsuit for public insult.
Marine Le Pen isn’t the only high profile figure to be included in the MDNA video segment. US senator Sarah Palin, Pope Benedict and Chinese President Hu Jintao also feature during a section when Madonna is not on the stage.
It has been known for some time Madonna would be using the image. After her first tour date in Tel Aviv, Marine Le Pen was notified of the slur and commented that it was ‘understandable’ an ‘aging star’ would do anything thing to court controversy.
The Express Yourself singer, laden with guns on her MDNA tour and occasionally flashing a breast for her adoring fans, looks as though she won’t be going down without a fight.
What do you think of Madonna’s swastika slur? Has she gone too far? Is this just an example of artistic expression? Can Madonna do no wrong? Let us know YOUR views in the box below or Tweet us @MarieClaireUK #madonna
