The supermodel advised the new Radio 1 breakfast show host to turn up to work drunk or not turn up at all
If Nick Grimshaw wants to make a success of his new job hosting Radio 1’s prestigious breakfast show, we’re not sure he should take the advice of model friend Kate Moss.
The bad girl supe, who we all know loves to booze, party and generally get up to mischief, told the Mancunian presenter to follow her lead and turn up to work ‘hungover’ or not bother to turn up at all.
Grimshaw told The Guardian that when he told Kate about his coveted new role she said: ‘What you wanna do, darling, is do what I do. Sometimes I go to work. Sometimes I go to work hungover. Sometimes I don’t turn up at all. People love that. They don’t know what to expect.’
He added: ‘I said, “Kate, that’s what [former Radio 1 breakfast show host] Chris Evans did.” She said, “Exactly, darling, everybody loved Chris Evans.” I said, “Kate, they sacked him.”‘
Chris was infamously fired from the radio station’s flagship show after a string of alcohol benders, late appearances and no-shows. But despite his party-loving circle of celebrity friends – think Pixie Geldof, Alexa Chung and One Direction’s Harry Styles – we can’t see Grimmers blowing his dream job.
Elsewhere in the interview he says: ‘It’s the job I’ve wanted since I was 10 or 11. It was never, “I want to work in radio”, it was always, “I want to do the Radio 1 breakfast show.” I remember my mum and dad being like, “Um, that’s quite precise, is there nothing else?” But when I was little, I always thought that it sounded like the free-est and funniest that radio can be.’
Nick Grimshaw will take over from Chris Moyles and start hosting the Radio 1 breakfast show from 24 September.
