The bestselling author says she hasn't read Fifty Shades - and isn't going to

Her mega-successful Harry Potter book series may have been overtaken by Fifty Shades of Grey when it became the bestselling book in the UK ever, but JK Rowling has said she doesn't 'wildly' feel she is missing out by not reading it.

In an interview with the Guardian newspaper, Rowling revealed she had promised her editor she wouldn't read it.

When she was quizzed if she felt left out of the trend, she answered 'not wildly'.

However, she needn't worry about the competition, as industry insiders are expecting Rowling's upcoming novel to be the bestselling novel of the year.

The Casual Vacancy will be released on September 27, with shops such as Waterstones planning to open their doors early due to demand.
