Say hello to HBO's unexpected new TV trio, as Jay Z, Will Smith and Calvin Harris create new comedy series...

Jay Z and Will Smith are joining forces to create what may well be our new favourite TV show, following in the footsteps of Lena Dunham's Girls.

With Calvin Harris also onboard for the unexpected project, the trio are uniting their skills to create a new comedy series for HBO. Uh-mazing.

Confirming the news, an official statement says: 'The pitch for the new series, set in a fictional world of electronic music was developed with the help of Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris. The show has been bought by HBO and is currently in development with the pilot being penned by critically acclaimed Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh.'

Will Smith has tasked himself with the role of executive producer of the show, which is set to be called Higher, alongside wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jay Z.

This isn't the first time the megastars have teamed up for film, either, as both Will and Jay Z are currently working on the forthcoming Annie remake.

DJ Calvin Harris will lends his love of electronic dance music to the show, which will be set in the, erm, world of electronic music. We're assuming it's not quite so space-age as it sounds, although wouldn't put it past these creative fellas.

But if you were hoping for a Fresh Prince cameo, hold that thought. Word has it Will Smith and Jay Z won't be making any appearances in the show at any point. But surely there's a petition we can sign somewhere?
