  • Superstar Beyoncé talks for the first time about suffering a miscarriage before Blue Ivy

Beyoncé Knowles has opened up about her miscarriage for the first time, revealing it was the ‘saddest thing’ she has ever experienced.

In her new HBO documentary Life Is But a Dream, superstar Beyoncé talks about her tragic loss, explaining that her miscarriage took place about two years ago.

‘I heard the heartbeat, which was the most beautiful music I ever heard in my life,’ the Halo singer reveals.

‘I picked out names. I envisioned what my child would look like… I was feeling very maternal.’

Beyoncé continued: ‘I flew back to New York to get my check up – and no heartbeat. Literally the week before I went to the doctor, everything was fine, but there was no heartbeat.’

The 31-year-old also explained that the experience inspired her to pen a new track. ‘I went into the studio and wrote the saddest song I’ve ever written in my life. And it was actually the first song I wrote for my album.

‘And it was the best form of therapy for me, because it was the saddest thing I’ve ever been through,’ she says.

Last year Beyoncé’s husband Jay-Z first revealed the news when he briefly mentioned the miscarriage in his song Glory.

‘Last time, the miscarriage was so tragic. We was afraid you would disappear. But nah, baby, you magic,’ he raps in reference to the couple’s one-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.

Life Is But a Dream will air on HBO next month, while Beyoncé will perform at the Super Bowl half time show on Sunday.
