Angelina Jolie joined William Hague at the G8 Summit in London
Angelina Jolie spoke at the G8 Summit in London yesterday and continued her campaign against the use of warzone rape.
The G8 group of leading countries pledged to end sexual violence and rape in conflict in an historic announcement. A move which was welcomed by Angelina Jolie.
The agreement will result in money pledged to fight the crimes. A £23m package will be given in total, of which Britain is providing £10m.
Crucially, the G8 agreement also states that perpetrators of sexual violence will no longer have impunity in peace agreements and that soldiers will receive training to help victims.
Speaking at the meeting in London, Angelina said: ‘International political will has been sorely lacking. But today I believe that their (the victims’) voices have been heard, and that we finally have some hope to offer them.’
