And it’s not as hard as you’d think

Let’s be honest, getting a job isn’t the easiest thing in the world is it? From being googled to answering trick interview questions, there are so many things to deal with before you even get to the final round.

But now a new survey has revealed the one thing that makes you more employable and it’s actually quite easy, in fact, we’d go as far as to say that it’s even enjoyable. Because it turns out travelling is the answer.

New stats by Hostelworld show that future employers are just as impressed by an impressive travel CV as they are by a work one.

In fact, a whopping 82% of employers polled believed travelling to different countries made you a more attractive hire (and in case you fancy killing two birds with one stone, you can apply for a job and get paid to travel and drink wine).

Which kind of makes sense if you think about it, because travel broadens the mind and definitely helps with people skills.

Out of all the people polled, 62% said travel had helped them understand what they wanted in life, and 51% said it helped them figure out what they wanted to do professionally. So no time wasters here.

So you know that tropical holiday you weren't sure you should take this year? Book it.

Penny Goldstone

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
