The £38 Next dress I’ll be stealing from all the influencers

I'm calling it: the white dress is the only dress worth investing in for your holiday, not least because it looks great with a tan. Whether it's a button-down linen or a floaty maxi, it's the most flattering blank canvas you can accessorise to your heart's content with anything from basket bags to sandals and shell jewellery.

There's one dress in particular that my Instagram scrolling can't keep up with, and it comes in at a bargainous £38, which is perfect if you don't want to break the bank for one holiday.

It comes courtesy of Next, features a pretty broderie Anglais finish, cold shoulders and buttons down the front, and has the fashion influencer seal of approval.

On holiday (somewhere like Cinque Terre or Bali, where everyone seems to be going at the moment), wear it with a statement earring and a basket bag.

That said, don't be put off my me calling it the perfect holiday dress though, because it works just as well in the city.

Simply dress it up a notch with a minimalist monochrome sandal and structured bag, a la Twinset below, or with Superga trainers and a denim jacket.

Penny Goldstone

Penny Goldstone is the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire, covering everything from catwalk trends to royal fashion and the latest high street and Instagram must-haves.

Penny grew up in France and studied languages and law at the Sorbonne Nouvelle University in Paris before moving to the UK for her MA in multimedia journalism at Bournemouth University. She moved to the UK permanently and has never looked back (though she does go back regularly to stock up on cheese and wine).

Although she's always loved fashion - she used to create scrapbooks of her favourite trends and looks, including Sienna Miller and Kate Moss' boho phase - her first job was at MoneySavingExpert.com, sourcing the best deals for everything from restaurants to designer sales.

However she quit after two years to follow her true passion, fashion journalism, and after many years of internships and freelance stints at magazines including Red, Cosmopolitan, Stylist and Good Housekeeping, landed her dream job as the Digital Fashion Editor at Marie Claire UK.

Her favourite part of the job is discovering new brands and meeting designers, and travelling the world to attend events and fashion shows. Seeing her first Chanel runway IRL at Paris Fashion Week was a true pinch-me moment.
