In honour of our January cover star, we look back at the many (many) times Miley has made us fistpump the air with her most brilliant quotes...

Not only is Miley Cyrus a graduate of Disney and a bonafide pop sensation, she is also one of the most badass and charismatic names in the business. Whether it's talking about sexuality, feminism, or about bossing it in the music industry, Miley's quickly become the outspoken young star who is more than willing to lend her voice for what she believes. Case in point? The Party In The USA hitmaker this year launched the Happy Hippie Foundation to help homeless and LGBTQ youth, which she launched with a number of collaborations with other high-profile artists – and filmed them all in her back garden, natch... So without further ado, may we present Miley’s most empowering – and totally kickass - one–liners…

When her advisors told her to work on her image… ‘And I'm like, 'I hear what you say and I'm gonna do the opposite of it. Because you're old and you're a man, and I'm young and I'm a girl and I know that's right. I've just got to make sure that I'm the voice of my generation. I think that I'm allowing girls to be really free with their sexuality.’

On prejudice… ‘No one should have to hide who they really are, no matter what his or her name, gender, status or orientation.’

On being single… ‘I’m finally O.K. with being alone. I think that’s something we have to talk about more: that you can be alone. There are times in my life where I’ve had boyfriends or girlfriends. And there are times where I just love being with myself and don’t want to give part of myself away to someone else… I think that’s a new freedom for women, especially. I don’t know that my mother would have been able to be 22 and secure in being alone. But my future doesn't rely on having a partner.’

When she said THIS… 'I don’t want, in my life ever, some prince dude to come save me. I don’t need to be saved. I’m my own person. I’m strong.’

On being a woman… ‘…That’s everything to me. Without women there is no life. I’m empowered as well, because I really feel like I hold something that’s the secret in all of life and the power of it. But, it took me a while to get like that.’

    Source: Tumblr.com

On her stage persona… ‘I went from people just thinking I was, like, a baby to people thinking I’m this, like, sex freak that really just pops molly and does lines all day. It’s like, 'Has anyone ever heard of rock 'n' roll?' There’s a sex scene in pretty much every single movie, and they go, "Well, that’s a character." Well, that is a character, too. I don’t really dress as a teddy bear and, like, twerk on Robin Thicke, you know?’

On the reactions to *that* VMA performance… ‘No one is talking about the man behind the ass. It was a lot of "Miley twerks on Robin Thicke," but never, "Robin Thicke grinds up on Miley." They're only talking about the one that bent over. So, obviously there's a double standard.’ When she called bullshit on the industry… ‘I’m with artists sometimes, and I’ll take a picture of them or whatever. They make me delete it. I’ll get someone to, like, flash me, and they’ll be, like, "You have to delete it!" I had to do that when I was 14 or 15, but even then I didn’t care. Like, if someone was videoing me ripping a bong, I didn’t care, so it’s just funny to me. I’m like: "Dude, you’re 30. Like, why can’t someone see a picture of your breasts?"'

On being mates with Kanye West… ‘Kanye is the shit. I kind of have a good relationship with him now. It's good to have someone you can call and be like, "Yo, do you think I should wear this? Do you think I should go in the studio with this guy? Do you think this is cool?" That's what homies are supposed to do.’

On Joe Jonas saying that she and Demi Lovato introduced him to marijuana… ‘If you want to smoke weed, you’re going to smoke weed. There’s nothing that two little girls are going to get you to do that you don’t want to do. I thought maybe he was saying that like it was going to make him look badass. We were so young that it’s actually, like, "How did you get peer pressured by me?"'

    Source: Buzzfeed.com

On bouncing back from heartbreak… ‘This is the best time of my life. I'm not going to look back on it and be, like, "I wish I hadn't been dwelling over a breakup," you know? Because that's not what God wants my life to be about right now.’

On smoking a joint at the EMAs… ‘I was just walking out of my room, and then I was, like 'Oh, I have this joint in my bag — that will be really funny.' I just did it mostly because I knew the fans in Amsterdam would love it, and they started going crazy when I did it. Even though that happened, it's not like the main focus of the night.’

    Source: MTV via Zap2It.com

On having bigger dreams... 'I'm probably never going to the

face of a traditional beauty company unless they want a weed-smoking,

liberal-ass freak. But my dream was never to sell lip gloss; my dream is

    to save the world.'

    Source: Idolator.com

When she was called a lesbian… ‘Everyone said I was a lesbian

but I'm like, being a lesbian isn't a bad thing. So if you think I look

like I'm a lesbian, I'm not offended. You can call me much worse. Being

    a lesbian is a compliment.’

    On owning the media… ‘It’s

like, I know you’re going to look at me more if my breasts are out, so

'look at me'. And then I’m going to tell you about my foundation for an

    hour and totally hustle you.’

    YES Miley!
