Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed have just announced that they are expecting their first baby together, revealing the news on social media this morning.

Celebrity babies tend to be announced in the sweetest ways and Ian and Nikki, who have been married since May 2015, did just that, taking to their Instagram accounts to share the news, posting photos of 38-year-old Ian kissing 28-year-old Nikki's baby bump.

Taking to his Instagram account, Vampire Diaries actor Ian uploaded a post captioned: ‘To our friends, family, and rest of the world. In my 38 years on this earth I’ve never experienced anything more powerful and beautiful than this. I can’t think of anything more exciting than this next chapter and we wanted you to hear this form us first. This has been the most special time of our lives and we wanted to keep it between the three of us for as long as possible so we could enjoy this time with each other and our little one who is growing so fast…because that’s what they do, they grow so fast. Thank you for your kind energy. Love, Ian’

Twilight star Nikki Reed also took to her Instagram account to share the news, writing an open letter to her unborn baby.

‘Hi Little One,’ read her message to her baby. ‘I know you, but only because I feel you. How is it possible to love someone so much already? All I know for sure is it's the strongest feeling I've ever felt.’ She continued: ‘We've been sharing this body for quite some time, and we've already experienced so much together. We can't wait to meet you...Love Your parents’

People are already starting to speculate that the couple are sending cryptic messages through the photo, taking the actress' choice of blue dress as a hint that they are expecting a baby boy.

The couple recently celebrated their two year wedding anniversary, marking the day by writing sweet tributes to each other.

‘My guy, my man, my honey, my partner in this life, my better half in every way’ Nikki posted to her Instagram feed. ‘At exactly this time two years ago today we walked hand in hand into the next chapter, our chapter, together. Ian also took to his social media to praise his wife. 'To the most amazing human in the world. Thank you for 2 incredible years of marriage. Today, two years ago to the minute, we said "I do" and I couldn't be happier or more grateful to you for this life. Thank you for being my best friend the hardest-working, kindest, most patient and most talented woman I've ever known. To you my love, I say that I know we will have so many of these we can't even count them. Partly because I'll be so old... I love you.'
